Andy Rose to join Coventry City following offseason trial

English League One side Coventry City FC announced Wednesday that Andy Rose will be join the squad in January after four seasons with Sounders FC.

The 25-year-old midfielder went on trial with the club this offseason and made an immediate impression on City manager Tony Mowbray.

"We had Andy over for a trial and during that time, he impressed me with his athleticism and the attributes he brings to the position," Mowbray said.

Rose scored five goals and added seven assists in his 82 regular-season apperances with Seattle after he joined the club via trade in January 2012. Born in Australia but raised in  England, Rose was part of the Bristol City youth system before playing college soccer at UCLA.

Sounders FC GM and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey first announced Rose's trial during a year-end conference call with media, but expressed his openness to having Rose rejoin the squad in the future.

"I think it was something he always wanted to do,” Lagerwey said. “We're happy for our players wherever they end up. Our door is open, either in the short term or long term."
