Sounders FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso was named an inactive All-Star and will remain with the Sounders on their road trip to Panama and Houston.

NEW YORK – Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso has been named one of the six inactive MLS All-Stars, as decided by the player ballot, MLS announced today.

Each year, a total of 32 players are named All-Stars and today MLS announced the final six: Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle Sounders FC), Dwayne De Rosario (D.C. United), Eric Hassli (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Juninho (L.A. Galaxy), Joel Lindpere (New York Red Bulls) and Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).

Earning his first All-Star selection in his three-year MLS career, Alonso, 25, has been rock-solid as holding midfielder, helping Sounders FC to a club record nine-game unbeaten streak. Alonso has played 90 minutes in all 21 appearances this season and has already scored a career-high three goals with two assists.

Sounders FC will face Panama’s San Francisco FC in a CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round match on Tuesday. First kick is set for 5 p.m. PT on Fox Soccer.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Alonso joins Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller among All-Star selections.  Keller will join the All-Stars in New York for the All-Star game against Manchester United on Wednesday after Seattle's match against San Francisco on Tuesday, but Alonso is inactive for the friendly and will remain with the Sounders as they travel to Houston on Wednesday.
