SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC defender Alex Roldan has been named to El Salvador’s roster for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. Roldan is currently with El Salvador and started in both of the squad’s friendlies in Asia this past week, a 6-0 loss to Japan on June 15 and 1-1 draw with South Korea this morning, the latter of which saw Roldan score his second career international goal.
Roldan, 26, has 20 career caps for El Salvador since making his international debut in a 2-0 win over Guatemala at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, a match in which he scored his first international goal. The defender appeared in 11 matches (10 starts) during El Salvador’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, captaining the squad on multiple occasions. Roldan has started all 16 of his MLS appearances for Seattle this year, tallying three assists.
El Salvador’s first match in the Group Stage of the Gold Cup is taking place on June 26 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida against either Martinique or Puerto Rico, who meet today in the final round of qualification. El Salvador then plays Costa Rica on June 30 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey (5:30 p.m. PT / FS1) and Panama on July 4 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas (5:30 p.m. PT / FS2).
Following a 3-3 draw at Charlotte FC on June 10, Seattle Sounders FC is set to take on LAFC at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, June 21 (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
