The first half of our look at the top 10 goals scored by Sounders players in 2013. Which is your favorite?
With the 2013 season over, it's time to look back on said year of matches and pick out some of the best goals scored by your Seattle Sounders FC. There were some great ones, some scrappy ones, some thrilling ones, all of which added up to another strong season for the club.
So with that in mind, I present to you the Top 10 Sounders Goals of 2013...well, the first five anyway. We'll go in descending order, you know, to have you on the edge of your seats. First five Tuesday. Second five on Wednesday. The best part? I've dug up the 'goal call' from @LIVESounders so you can relive the tally in all its glory.
Here we go...
10. Obafemi Martins vs. Real Salt Lake (9/13/13, CenturyLink Field)
Arguably the pinnacle of the Sounders 2013 season...topping Real Salt Lake to jump into first place in the league table. It started with a bang as Oba scored a great team goal just three minutes into the match. Was a great one that was to be a part of.
9. Djimi Traore vs. Sporting Kansas City (5/8/13, Sporting Park)
Kind of the opposite from No. 10 on the list...Djimi's goal came early in the season when the club was struggling and was in desperate need of a win. It was also one of the last kicks of the match and secured the 1-0 win.
Something tells me it won't be the last goal from Mr. Traore on the list...
8. Mauro Rosales vs. San Jose Earthquakes (5/11/13, CenturyLink Field)
Mauro Rosales contributed a number of assists to the Sounders over his three years with the club...but also a number of fine quality goals. This one in particular during the Sounders 4-0 rout of the Earthquakes in May. Bent in beautifully off the bar, this was definitely one of the nicer goals scored this season.
7. Eddie Johnson vs. Portland Timbers (6/25/13, CenturyLink Field)
What's bigger than scoring at CenturyLink Field in front of 67,000 people while playing the Sounders biggest rival, the Portland Timbers? Not much really. Johnson has made a habit of doing this over his career with Seattle. This lovely glanced header was the latest example. The 1-0 final was an added bonus.
6. Eddie Johnson vs. Mexico (9/10/13, Crew Stadium)
EJ has thrust himself back into the U.S. National Team picture over the last year or so and his goal against Mexico effectively put the his squad into the World Cup. Another great headed effort in front of a wild Crew Stadium in Columbus. I was there in Ohio for the match and the night was made almost as much by this goal as it was by the terrific atmosphere.
