CHICAGO – The 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on Wednesday, Aug. 8, will be broadcast live on GolTV.
The finale of the 99th U.S. Open Cup kicks off at 8 p.m. CT (9 p.m. ET) at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., as three-time defending U.S. Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC faces host Sporting Kansas City. This match marks the first of three U.S. Open Cup championship matches to be broadcast on GolTV through 2014.
Sporting Kansas City reaches the U.S. Open Cup Final for the second time. In its previous appearance, the club (then known as the Kansas City Wizards) topped the defending champion Chicago Fire 1-0 on Sept. 22, 2004, at Arrowhead Stadium.
Seattle looks to accomplish something that has never happened in the U.S. Open Cup – win a fourth straight championship. The Sounders became the third team to advance to the U.S. Open Cup Final for four straight years. Their previous U.S. Open Cup crowns included a 2-1 victory against D.C. United in 2009, a 2-1 win against the Columbus Crew in 2010 and a 2-0 victory against the Chicago Fire in 2011.
