For the upcoming installment of Sounders FC Classics on June 6, presented by Zulily, the club will be re-airing Kasey the iconic 2-0 victory over the Chicago Fire in the 2011 U.S. Open Cup final.
Advancing to the USOC championship match for the third consecutive season, the Sounders came flying out of the gates in front of a packed crowd at CenturyLink Field. Despite carving out numerous quality chances, the match remained level until late in the second half, with Fredy Montero pouncing on a loose ball to score the game-winning goal. Osvaldo Alonso put the match out of reach in the 96th minute as he slalomed through a sea of defenders before passing the ball into the back of the net.
With the win, the Sounders secured three consecutive USOC titles in the franchise’s first three years in Major League Soccer.
